Children Craft Projects

Do you think it is in bad taste to use beer flats in a child's craft project? ?

The craft project I want to teach is a lot easier and safer to do if the children (age 7-9) are allowed to use beer flats which I can get in abundance rather than boxes which are not uniform in size or thickness and must be cut down to size first. But I cringe at the chance that anyone might think I am being a detriment to children. And if I paint them first to cover up the words then the glue does not stick as well. There are 12 children and each child needs nine or more beer flats for building a castle especially if they want to add a moat.

It wouldn't alarm me in the slightest, but if in doubt, run off a dozen permission slips advising parents of the details of the project. I know this sounds like an unnecessary precaution, but better to be aware of any objections up front than to wait until an innocent use of materials turns into a political battlefield. There will always be parents who overreact and read more into a thing that is strictly necessary. Better safe than sorry.
