Need help with a Christmas Craft?

So anyway ... I was going to make a Christmas ornament with the child's hand or finger of my using plaster of Paris ... but that went horribly wrong. Then I tried to mud .. again just a huge pain in the butt. So now this is my idea .... I want to buy a bunch of white coffee cups and the same treatment, but wondered what kind of paint I would use (I was thinking acrylics) and how he to make the paint stay so they can use cups and lava. He is 5 months old ... if that helps and I could have just to make a foot print unless anyone have any idea on how to do a successful hand print. I'm trying to keep this fact "cheap and" home really can not afford to go to a pottery store. I was thinking of getting the cups at Wal-Mart .. Wite simply simple. I guess the reason I want to go with something useful now is because the assimilated and will not be saved later.

If using terra cotta pots and plant them to not have to be washable. Footprint hand was presented very well if you used a light opaque acrylic paint. You could also consider buying a good clear glass container and make a handprint or footprint there. Those not expected to be washed, either.
