Wood Craft Cutouts

What I can use to paint / color simple wood scraps Halloween Thanksgiving etc /?

I have latex paint art, but marking pens would be more accurate. Is there a particular type of feathers for use in these cute wooden forms? If I use the wrong type of pens, which will run because the wood is very porous. In fact, something that would allow lines to show through cuts would be great. Thanks!

Permanent markers I not running to make the grain in my sheets of wood and crevaces in pumpkin shapes. Watercolor pens are great for leaves, and not bleeding, giving the leaves a multi-color, turning from one color to the look that comes naturally. I used the thin line Sharpies permanent markers 10 color set was $ 2.99. Used Aileen acyrlic painting and watercolor markers with a brush tip of Michael's craft store. I also sealed mine with polyurethane, the lack of yellow, UVB / UVA Varathane protected, especially since they use around food and to make them easier to clean.
